SQ (Sûreté du Québec)
The SQ (Sûreté du Québec) is the police force for the province of Québec, Canada with the jurisdiction to prevent and suppress law offences throughout the entire province Québec. The Sûreté du Québec acts under the authority of the Québec Minister of Public Safety.
The Sûreté also has the jurisdiction to prevent and suppress offences to municipal regulations in those municipal territories for which it provides police services. The emblems used on the badges of SQ police uniforms since 1870 can be viewed here.
"Its specialized services are called on to intervene with the municipal and Native police forces and to conduct joint operations with these. The Sûreté du Québec also plays a consultative role in the organization of police services in Native communities."
"In the framework of its legal mandate, the Sûreté du Québec implements a number of federal laws on Québec territory.
