David Spencer's Education Paragon is a free educational resource portal helping David Spencer's secondary school students, their parents and teaching colleagues with understanding, designing, applying and delivering assessment, curriculum, educational resources, evaluation and literacy skills accurately and effectively. This wiki features educational resources for Indigenous Aboriginal education, field trips for educators, Davids Music Jam, law and justice education, music education and outdoor, environmental and experiential education. Since our web site launch 10.5 years ago on September 27, 2006, online site statistics and web rankings indicate there are currently 1,868 pages and 11,682,604 page views using 7.85 Gig of bandwidth per month. Pages are written, edited, published and hosted by Brampton, Ontario, Canada based educator David Spencer. The Wilderness Experience 1 (WE1) with David is an integrated program designed for an alternative secondary school setting by educator David Spencer. Wilderness Experience 1 (WE1) provides three (3) secondary school course credits during semester one. Students should attend and participate in all classes, outdoor field trips and events. Literacy and communication skills developed during this program include jot note writing, writing journal entries, researching in public, college and university libraries, interviewing, script writing and oral reading comprehension. New media technology skills developed include audio and video recording presentations for the DVD authoring and web podcasting and documentary production for FM radio broadcasting and web podcasting. Students will be provided with opportunities to learn how to research, plan for, promote, hold and debrief a community event about green transportation and green energy alternatives.

Program: The Wilderness Experience (WE) program integrates two Ontario Ministry of Education certified courses:

  • Current Aboriginal Issues in Canada (NDA3M) This course focuses on existing and emerging issues of importance to Aboriginal peoples in Canada. Students will investigate issues related to identity, relationships among Aboriginal peoples and between Aboriginal peoples and other Canadians, sovereignty principles as presented by Aboriginal peoples, and the contemporary challenges posed by these issues. Students will also examine such topics as language preservation, the responsibilities of Aboriginal women and men, and the need for dialogue between Aboriginal and non- Aboriginal peoples.   • The Environment and Resource Management (CGR4M) is an integrative subject that brings a variety of perspectives, both social and physical, to the study of people, places, and environments around the world. Understanding the processes that shape the earth and knowing how life-forms interact with the environment allows students to view events from an ecological perspective. The Environment and Resource Management course investigates the complexity and fragility of ecosystems and the effects of human activities on them. Students will study the principles of sustainability and resource management and evaluate various approaches to achieving a more sustainable relationship between the environment, society, and the economy.   • Interdisciplinary Studies (IDC30G) is a course that will help students combine the skills required for and knowledge of different subjects and disciplines to solve problems, make decisions, create personal meaning, and present findings beyond the scope of a single subject or discipline. Through individual and collaborative inquiry and research, students will analyse the connections among diverse subjects and disciplines; develop information literacy skills in analysing, selecting, evaluating, and communicating information; and become aware of a variety of resources and viewpoints on contemporary issues. They will also examine their own learning styles, relate their inquiries and research to real-life situations, and investigate career opportunities in new disciplines.   3. Refer to your notes, David's notes and what you heard from Gabrielle Scrimshaw and write a 200 word summary report about Gabrielle Scrimshaw's background, accolades, current passion and mission. Include your photo of you with Gabrielle Scrimshaw, a bibliography for web sites used and a citation for a lecture. A= __/30 marks

Thursday December 18, 2014: Morning

  1. Ask questions and interact with staff during our field trip to the Peel Aboriginal Network. A= __/10 marks
  2. Write jot notes and write a journal entry on who you met, what you learned about First Nations culture and what you did during your volunteer time. A= __/10 marks
